Purpose / Philosophy

Purpose of TGHF is to create an adequate world

  • To showcase the local heroes and document the successful solutions.
  • To create opportunities for rural social entrepreneurs to co-create the desired state in their area.

Philosophy
In this world of plenty, the reality is that there are many living beings that do not have access to basic resources. Reasons apart, we call this state of being Poverty. The funny thing about poverty is that it’s like water. Just the way water assumes the shape of the vessel, and has no shape for itself, Poverty assumes its definition based on the context. Poverty in one place isn’t the same as the poverty somewhere else. So all efforts to “eradicate poverty” are context-specific. What we see as a result is an array of incredibly innovative but independent solutions for a moving target called poverty.

Let us, for a moment, forget about eradicating poverty! Let’s instead think about creating a desired state!

You may rightly say, that the desired state is just as much a moving target as the state of poverty… So we knocked it down to the common denominator that all of us - irrespective of where we come from, how we look, who we pray to and what we eat - need to live a life in dignity and peace:
  • Food security & Nutrition
  • Water conservation
  • Shelter
  • Clothing
  • Health
  • Energy
  • Education
  • Income generation
  • Social equity
  • Connectivity (physical and information infrastructure)
  • Public assembly
  • Environmental conservation/Disaster management
